"Ich will nur dir zu Ehren leben" from Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248
The Christmas Oratorio was written for the Christmas season of 1734, incorporating music from earlier compositions, which included three secular cantatas written during 1733 and 1734, and a now lost church cantata, BWV 248a.
I transcribed this tenor aria for trombone quartet when I was in graduate school for my Master’s Recital, and it was premiered on February 25, 2000. Nitzan Haroz and Matt Vaughn played the first and second parts respectively, and Chris Wolfe played bass trombone. I played the third part, which is the original tenor solo.
