Overture to The Magic Flute
I wanted to transcribe this overture as a tribute to Mozart’s historical use of the trombone section that ultimately provided for its permanent position in the opera orchestra. I used the Bärenreiter-Verlag Critical Edition as source material for articulations and dynamics.
The arrangement has been written in such a way that the third part can be played on either tenor or bass trombone, and the fourth part can be played on either a bass trombone or tuba. It is recommended that the first part be played on alto trombone.
